Vesa standard

In a previous article, we defined the vesa mount as the standard for attaching monitors to mounts.

Identifying if you have a vesa compatible monitor

Look at the back of your monitor. If it has 4 holes that are equidistant apart in the middle of the monitor, then it is vesa compatible. After checking for the holes, you will screw in the threaded holes into the base of the monitor.

Most monitors now are vesa compliant. You can use the vesa mounts on either the stand of a monitor or on a wall.

If you are unsure whether your monitor is vesa complaint or not, you can find the model number of your computer monitor. You can go through a online search or look at the back of your computer monitor, and see if it is vesa compatible in the manual or not.

The pros of Vesa monitor mount

Once the monitor is secured in the mount, either it is on a stand or on a monitor arm or on a wall, the mount can handle more weight. Ideally the screw holes will be centered on the back of the monitor allowing for the mount to handle the weight.

Depending on the type of mount that you get, you can swivel the computer monitor in a range from eye level to much higher or lower from where you would do work.

Luckily, computer monitors are easily mountable.

The cons of Vesa monitor mount

The con varies on the type of vesa mount that you get.

For example, dual monitor mounts are usually mounted on a desk, so they can bounce a little more. The other examples can be seen in types of monitor mounts.

Best practice for installing the vesa compatible mount

You can search online the model number of the monitor or computer to find the manual to how to properly install the vesa mount into the monitor.
