How to measure a computer monitor

Tools You Will Need

You can either use a measuring tape or a ruler to measure the computer monitor’s size. An alternative is using a smartphone with a measurement app. For example, Apple has the measure app and Android has the Ruler app.

The process for measuring screen size

1. You will only measure the actual computer monitor screen diagonally from the bottom right corner to the top left corner in order to get the correct dimensions.
2. Do not include the plastic edge around the screen or the bezel.
3. This process will allow you to get the screen size or monitor size in inches. You can also do this process with a computer screen, laptop screen, or tv screen. I personally like to use a smartphone application mentioned above for measuring the screen.

Measuring your screen size will help you determine whether it fits onto your desk or potential desk you plan to purchase. You can measure the width and height of the screen to help you decide whether it’s a good match for your room and desk.

Monitor Size

Typically, computer monitors range from 13 to 55 inches in diagonal measurement. A standard monitor size is usually 19 to 34 inches. A majority of laptops screen size are 12 to 17 inches. If you are unsure of the actual size, you can look up the monitor’s model number or laptop’s model number on an online search or search engine.
